A courier who was attacked by a dog while delivering packages said she thought she was “finished.”

Sarah Bound, from Brynmenyn, Bridgend, was taken to hospital after police were called to the scene of an accident on the A4063 in the Coytrahen area at around 1.20pm (CEST) on Monday.

The 39-year-old was on a regular delivery route for Evri, but said things “suddenly went wrong” when she arrived at a house she had delivered to before.

“I really felt like I was in a movie… it was absolutely horrific and the pain was unbelievable,” she said.

Ms Bound said she initially heard the dog barking before it “just jumped over the fence, came straight at me and cornered me in the doorway”.

She described the dog as a type of German shepherd, adding that he only stopped attacking her when his owner came around the corner and pulled him away from her.

“If she hadn’t come to her senses, the dog would have continued and a much worse scenario would have occurred,” she said.

The attack left her with three stab wounds, scars and bruises.

She was taken to the hospital and given a tetanus shot and antibiotics.

“Four days later, I still have stabbing pains in my arms and it’s still bleeding,” she said.

Ms Bound said the attack had affected her both mentally and physically.

“It’s weird. I deal with dogs every day and I’ve never been afraid of them, but now I’m not so sure. It really makes you think twice,” she said.

“I’ve been thinking, what if it was a child? What if the owner didn’t show up? It’s a really bizarre situation and my friends and partner tell me I don’t seem right.”

She added that she doesn’t blame the dog or the owner, but wants to make sure no one else gets hurt.

“I may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, but something needs to be done about the dog,” she said.

“I haven’t heard anything from the owner since then and I don’t think that’s right. I hope that changes because this can’t happen to anyone else.”
