Lexington police investigate murder case from two years ago

LEXINGTON, SC — It’s been just two years since Tyler Robinson was shot and killed outside his Lauren Ridge apartment in Lexington, and Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green is once again asking the public for any information that could help investigators solve his murder.

“I want (Robinson’s) family, friends and everyone involved in his death to know that our Criminal Investigation Division continues to pursue new leads and that this case is still very much alive,” Chief Green said. “We will not give up and we know that the right person will come forward with the information to solve this murder case.”

At around 2 a.m. on July 9, 2022, Lexington police officers responded to a 911 call that 500 shots had been fired at the Lauren Ridge Apartments on Carlen Dr. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Robinson on the outside stairs of Building 4. The 29-year-old had been shot multiple times. He later died at a local hospital.

Investigators found evidence at the scene that led them to conclude that several unknown individuals were involved in Robinson’s murder and that Robinson was robbed of jewelry and his apartment after he was shot. Police believe Robinson, a Columbia-area music promoter active in the local music scene, was followed by the suspects from a downtown Columbia club and attacked shortly after arriving at his apartment.

The search continues for several pieces of jewelry and a watch believed to be worn by Robinson at the time of his murder. These include a gold necklace and pendant with jewels marked “Smooth” and “LMC,” two jeweled gold rings, one with “$” and the other with “LMC,” and a jeweled gold watch.
