Police officer in court for rape

As was announced on Thursday, a police officer has been suspended because he is facing criminal proceedings for domestic violence and the rape of his wife.

His wife reported him earlier this month, after which he was brought to court and has been held in custody since then, a police spokesman confirmed to the Cyprus Mail.

“This is a case of domestic violence, we cannot say much about it. He was immediately suspended and a disciplinary investigation is underway.”

Accordingly Reporter, The case was referred to the Criminal Court in Nicosia for trial and he was ordered to be remanded in custody.

The reason given is the fear that he could influence his wife or another witness.

The officer nevertheless appealed the decision. The court will announce its own decision at a later date.
