FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Fresno police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting last summer.

Angel Gonzalez is accused of killing a man who was leaving a party with his wife.

Gonzalez was put in prison for murder.

Police found him Tuesday when they executed a search warrant at an apartment complex near Shaw and Valentine.

The shooting occurred on July 16, 2023 in the area of Thorne Avenue and Lorena Avenue.

According to investigators, another suspect was armed with a gun when he confronted 25-year-old Simon Martinez and his wife Leticia and attempted to rob them.

Moments later, a car pulled up. Police say Gonzalez was inside the vehicle when he opened fire on the couple. Martinez was killed and Leticia was injured.

In a press conference Wednesday, Fresno police said Gonzalez also has a criminal history.

“Mr. Gonzalez was also arrested for a prior carjacking in which he was armed with a firearm,” said Lt. Paul Cervantes. “And he was also arrested for two other cases in which he was found to be in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.”

Investigators say the arrest is a bittersweet moment for the victim’s family.

It is the first anniversary of Simon’s death.

Two other suspects were previously arrested for the crime. One was charged with robbery and murder, the other with aiding and abetting murder.
