Crime in Houston, Texas: Police officer injured responding to armed robbery in Heights

The officer was responding to a robbery call at a CVS pharmacy on TC Jester and Washington Avenue around 3 a.m. when it happened.

HOUSTON — Houston police said an officer was injured when a robber ran over his leg in a getaway car in Heights early Thursday morning.

The officer was responding to a robbery call at a CVS pharmacy on TC Jester and Washington Avenue around 3 a.m. when it happened.

According to police, two men wearing hoodies entered the store and threatened employees with a gun, demanding money. There was no money in the cash drawer and they were unable to access the store’s safe, so police said the suspects stole an employee’s debit card and withdrew a few hundred dollars.

The suspects also attempted to steal the employee’s phone to access their bank accounts, according to HPD. That’s when officers arrived.

The two men reportedly fled the scene, but a police officer managed to catch one of them as he was getting into the getaway car. That’s when the suspect ran over the officer’s leg, who was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be unharmed.

The car used in the robbery was found wrecked nearby and officers were working to locate the suspects.

This is a developing story that will be updated if/when more information becomes available.
