Former Nevis bus driver and Hubbard County commissioner convicted of sexual abuse

A former Nevis school bus driver and former Hubbard County commissioner has been found guilty of four felony counts related to sexual conduct involving two different minors.

As part of a plea agreement, Daniel Joseph Stacey, 59, of Akeley, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 16 and two counts of solicitation of a child to engage in sexual conduct.

According to court documents, the state agreed to drop seven other charges after he pleaded guilty to those four crimes. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 13.

Stacey was elected as a Hubbard County Commissioner in 2012 and served from 2013 until his resignation on February 1, 2023. Stacey has also served as a DARE officer and volunteered with a Boy Scout troop.
