British Columbia trucking company suspended after accident on Langley overpass

British Columbia’s Ministry of Transportation says it has taken an entire fleet of trucks off the road after the company that operates them was involved in a ferry strike on Tuesday.

It happened early this morning on Highway 1 in Langley at the CP Rail overpass.

The ministry told CityNews that the investigation is ongoing, but in the meantime, SGD Transport Ltd. must take all seven vehicles off the road pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is also involved and the ministry says it will provide further information shortly.

This happened a few weeks after another company was involved in an overpass strike, this time in Richmond along Highway 99. In this case the province’s website found the cause of the accident to be “driver error” and noted that the truck’s load was “mismeasured.” Ludeman Trucking Ltd. received tickets from the RCMP for exceeding the speed limit, and the province’s Commercial Vehicle Bridge/Overpass Crash Report states that an “action plan” was “implemented and confirmed” on July 8.

According to the province’s website, 19 overpass accidents have been recorded so far in 2024.
