Video shows Baskin Robbins employee in Elk Grove being attacked by suspect

ELK GROVE – An employee at Baskin Robbins in Elk Grove was hospitalized after she said she was repeatedly attacked by a customer on Tuesday.

The moments when these blows were delivered were captured on surveillance video.

The suspect is still on the run. The employee, Emily Ruiz, was still in shock a day later, but is recovering.

This all happened when the suspect ordered a sandwich and initially left the store before turning around and going back inside.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect speaking to a male employee before following him to the back of the store. Then Ruiz came out from behind and tried to ask how she could help.

The suspect backed away and punched her in the face, causing her to hit the wall. The suspect continued to search for the other employee and punched Ruiz in the face a second time before leaving.

Ruiz spent the day in the hospital and had scratches and bruises on her face when she spoke to us. She said she believes the customer was upset about his order.

“This is no reason to hit anyone or to help the crew members,” said Ruiz. “This is crazy. My colleagues and I are very scared. We don’t know them and we don’t know if the police have even found them.”

Ruiz said she was afraid the person might come back before police could track them down.

Elk Grove police say they know the suspect but are not releasing his name at this time.
