Bremer gets 10 years in prison for baseball bat attack |

A man from Bremen who broke into a house in 2023 and attacked a resident with a baseball bat has been sentenced to ten years in prison, two of which he must serve in prison.

In a trial verdict, 61-year-old Donald Allen pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in Haralson County Superior Court.

On the night of March 16, 2023, police were alerted to a burglary in progress and reports of a physical altercation between the victim and perpetrator. When they arrived at the scene, officers found the victim in the yard and Allen in a back room. Allen eventually agreed to come outside, where he was arrested.

Prosecutors said Allen first tried to get into the locked house by breaking a window. When he failed, he kicked in the front door and struck the homeowner with a baseball bat, injuring the victim’s face. A witness at the scene was unharmed but was taken to the hospital for a panic attack.

After Allen was advised of his Miranda rights, he admitted to the assault. Because Allen lived at the home, all other charges – including burglary – were dropped.
