Rally for grandmother shot in her home – NBC10 Philadelphia

Eight months later, the search continues for a suspect who killed a grandmother in her Southwest Philadelphia home.

According to police, Rose Goodman, 80, was found shot to death in her Broomall Street home in September 2023. To date there is no evidence of her murder.

Police determined that an unknown person or persons entered Goodman’s home through the basement window and committed the crime.

There are still traces and evidence of the break-in in the house.

“Where the screens are cut, these are all attempts to get in,” said Alan Goodman, the victim’s son.

He’s back at his parents’ house, preparing for a rally Friday in honor of his mother. A young girl went door to door on Thursday afternoon handing out flyers.

“It’s difficult just walking through the house knowing my mother is no longer there. But we grew up in this house and we’re not going to let that kind of fear or sadness take us away from it,” Alan said.

The crime still holds the tight-knit neighborhood in disbelief. The shooter never stole anything. Investigators say the suspect shot her and then ran away.

“It’s shocking. And I know the police are doing the best they can. I talk to them pretty regularly; I talk to detectives. I know that. We just need more people to speak out,” Alan said.

As neighbors and people close to Goodman try to piece together what happened that night, there is hope the rally could provide new information.

They’re also looking to add an extra layer of security for other seniors throughout the city.

“We must do more to protect our mothers and our elders. Whether it’s the police department, the city, the community, whether we need to strengthen our community surveillance programs, whatever it is, we need to make our elders feel safer on the streets,” Alan said.
