Severe thunderstorms sweep through the Tri-State Area, the region experiences the 3rd heat wave of 2024

NEW YORK — New York and New Jersey endured another day of extreme heat, humidity and severe weather on Wednesday.

Storms cause damage throughout the tri-state area

The weather was also very active on Wednesday, as another series of severe thunderstorms swept through the region. This time, even New York City was shaken.

During these storms, there were numerous reports of fallen trees, downed power lines, and even flash floods.

The storm flooded a street in Newark, causing problems for drivers. At least eight cars became stuck and the occupants had to be rescued. Some of the cars were damaged and had to be towed.

In Rockland County, Three people were injured by a lightning strike during a picnic in High Tor State Park.

The weather also led to the postponement of a Foo Fighters concert at Citi Field.

The total amount of precipitation was between 2.5 and over 10 centimeters, as they were able to extract all the moisture from the very humid air mass that had been there for days.

When will the heat wave in NYC end?

These storms will mark the end of our heat wave and bring with them a much more pleasant air mass.

Overnight, the chance of thunderstorms will decrease to just a few remaining showers. However, it will still be humid, with lows of up to 21 degrees Celsius.

After a few showers in the morning, Thursday promises to be the nicest day in a long time, with clearing skies, decreasing humidity and maximum temperatures between 27 and 29 degrees.

The return to normal temperatures is a welcome change and should continue through the weekend.
