1 dead and 1 injured after Jeep rolls down an embankment

RICHFIELD – A man is dead and a woman is in the hospital with serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Sevier County Wednesday evening.

According to Lt. Cam Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling eastbound on I-70 near mile marker 28 on a section of the road that gradually curves to the right. The Jeep left the road on the curve and landed in the median.

“We are investigating fatigue as a possible factor in the accident,” Roden said.

Roden said after the Jeep entered the median, the driver apparently overcorrected and the Jeep veered off the right side of the road, where it went down an embankment and rolled several times.

The driver and a passenger were not wearing seat belts and were both thrown from the car. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and the woman was taken to hospital.

The two crash victims have not been identified and it is not yet known whether they were from Utah or how old they were.
