According to police, one of the two cyclists killed in two accidents in Philadelphia was fatally injured at Rittenhouse Square

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A 30-year-old cyclist was fatally struck in Rittenhouse Square, and two other crashes in Philadelphia left one person dead and another seriously injured Wednesday night, police said.

According to police, the accident in which the cyclist died occurred at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Spruce Street and 18th Street.

A 68-year-old man driving a “2018 blue vehicle” was traveling west on Spruce Street when he struck the bicyclist, who was also traveling west in the bike lane, police said. The woman suffered severe head trauma, police said. She was taken to Jefferson Hospital and pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. Authorities said no charges have been filed at this time.

Around the same time, in Northeast Philadelphia, a man in his 50s was struck and killed by the driver of a black Toyota while standing on a street corner. The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. at the corner of Frankford Avenue and East Allegheny Avenue.

According to police, paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene of the accident at 7:15 p.m. The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene. No arrests were made, authorities said.

Earlier in the day, a 26-year-old woman was struck and seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in East Germantown, police said. The accident occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. as the 26-year-old was crossing the street. She was taken to Einstein Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

Police said the person who struck the 26-year-old fled in a blue Cadillac. The car was eventually found in the 5600 block of Sprague Street and a female driver was arrested, authorities said.
