BJM’s Lil Man Stands Out at NYSS in Buffalo

Hamburg, NY – BJM’s Lil Man ($2.40) claimed the $106,300 New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday afternoon (July 17) with a hard-earned 1 1/4 length victory over Low Inside in 1:59.4 on the fast track.

After posting a 10-length victory in the Excelsior Series at Vernon Downs on July 4, BJM’s Lil Man made his return in the New York Sire Stakes.

Banksy Monkey and Karinchak each fled behind the starting gate, leaving just five gentlemen to battle it out the rest of the way.

Low Inside (Dan Daley) took the early lead but saw his lead disappear as BJM’s Lil Man (Tyler Buter) quickly returned to the top. With splits of :29.3, 1:00.0 and 1:30.1, things were going to get interesting down the stretch for BJM’s Lil Man.

Security Code S (Niko Karna) was first through and was tied with BJM’s Lil Man heading towards the finish line. Low Inside was sitting in the pocket and came inside, also making a move towards the lead. But halfway through the long straight, BJM’s Lil Man found one last burst of energy and managed to give himself some light as he crossed the finish line, beating Low Inside while Security Code S had to settle for third.

Owned by Joseph Meaney and trained by John Berger, this is the second win in three starts for BJM’s Lil Man (Devious Man-Vixen). The victory brings his seasonal earnings to $63,150.

In the $20,000 Excelsior Series for Grade 1 trotters, Logo (John MacDonald) edged Doctor Strange (John Stark Jr.) by 2 1/2 lengths. He completed the mile in 2:01.2 and earned $5.50 for his triumph.

The second division saw Cheques In Limbo (Kevin Cummings) take a popular $3.00 victory beating Chapamando (MacDonald) by 1-1/2 lengths in 2:03.3.

The final weekend of live action at Buffalo Raceway begins Friday with a 10-race card scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The Pick-5 has a $381 carryover starting with the second race. There are 10 more events scheduled for Saturday night at 6 p.m. while the track has added this Sunday (July 21) to the schedule with a special feature at noon.
