Kolkata: Kolkata Police on Tuesday arrested a young guest house owner who allegedly raped a woman after befriending her through a common friend at a pub-cum-nightclub in central Kolkata. According to police, the accused met the woman at a bar near Park Street. After the two met, the youth reportedly invited her to his residence and then raped her. Following this, a complaint was filed at Shyampukur police station on July 15. “The accused took the woman to his residence in his car. It is alleged that she was drugged in the car. However, the woman has stated that she was first raped at a guest house in Salt Lake and later at the accused’s residence in Sovabazar,” an officer said. Based on the complaint, a rape case was registered under the new BNS sections. The accused was produced in court on Wednesday. Police will go to court to record the woman’s statement before a judge and the complainant’s clothes will be seized for forensic examination, police said.
