4 people arrested in Atmore after man allegedly overdosed on new drug “Scoot”

ATMORE, Alabama (WKRG) – Atmore police officers responded to a home at 301 Beck Street Sunday morning where 26-year-old Shawn Michael Boutwell was found unconscious after drinking a cocktail of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid and embalming fluid.

The name of the cocktail is now known as “Scoot.”

Boutwell and three others were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The other three suspects were 35-year-old Leslie Anita Whiting, 47-year-old Amy Jo Louise Nelson of Daytona Beach and 44-year-old Johnathan Alexander Schinasi of Lake Butler.

Atmore Police Sergeant Darrell McMann said embalming fluids can be purchased online or obtained through a contact at a funeral home.

He claimed that “scoot” was another way to get high.

During the investigation of the house, more narcotics than just “Scoot” were found in a mobile home on the property.

“They contacted our drug unit investigators, who obtained a search warrant, then went into the house and found more drugs,” McMann said. “Many of these had not yet been identified, so they were sent to the lab.”

Whiting was also charged with disturbing the peace when she attempted to delay arrest. She claimed she also had to go to the hospital because she feared she had also overdosed. When she left the hospital, Whiting became irritable toward hospital staff.
