“I’ve been doing this for about 30 years and I’ll continue to do it until I die,” Kelly said.

On Wednesday, about 400 young athletes were in attendance, making Kelly’s 36th camp particularly special.

“If grandparents, now parents, want their kids to learn something, they should come here,” Kelly said. “They’re not just learning football. They’re learning life.”

It’s remarkable for Kelly to see the campers wearing his jersey from another era of football.

“Well, I can guarantee none of those kids were there when I was playing,” Kelly joked.

While current campers never got the chance to see Kelly on the field, being at Highmark Stadium and interacting with the Hall of Fame quarterback provides a sense of history.

“You learn that you have a legacy,” Kelly said. “I’m not just talking about me, I’m talking about the Bills.”

Kelly sees that the children are beginning to understand that the banners on the wall mean something.

“All the way back to Jack Kemp, Joe DeLamielleure, Billy Shaw. You look at 1964-65 — Champion. Then you have our four Super Bowls,” Kelly said.

Buffalo Camp continues to inspire the next generation of athletes.

“These are the Bills’ kids. These are the future Bills of the Mafia,” Kelly said.
