Giannis Antetokounmpo’s younger brother, former Milwaukee Bucks signee, suspended

While they may not have the innate talent of Giannis Antetokounmpo on the court, the Milwaukee Bucks star’s brothers have always found a way to play for an NBA team over the years. Meanwhile, Alex, the youngest of the bunch, is playing in Lithuania and was recently suspended.

Giannis Antetokounmpo first entered the league in 2013 when he was the Bucks’ 15th overall pick in that year’s draft. Since then, the Greek Freak has risen through the ranks, winning Most Improved Player of the Year, two MVPs and Defensive Player of the Year.

Milwaukee’s franchise star would get the big win as Antetokounmpo led his team to win the championship over the Phoenix Suns in 2021. Along with a Finals MVP, the All-Star forward’s legacy in the NBA was cemented.

For his part, Thanasis joined his brother in Milwaukee for the 2019-20 season. From that point on, the forward averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in the five years he played for the Bucks. Meanwhile, Kostas joined his brothers as champions when he became part of the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers team that won the championship in the bubble in Orlando.

Although Kostas and Thanasis are recognized as official NBA players, Alex was not. The fourth-youngest Antetokounmpo could only play for the Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings and the Bucks’ affiliate teams in the G-League.

With nothing happening in his NBA career, Alex played for Mazeikiai M Basket-Delamode in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). However, an article published on Basketnews states that the Antetokounmpo brother was recently suspended by his team.

“According to BasketNews sources, Mazeikiai M Basket-Delamode suspended its player Alex Antetokounmpo just before the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) playoffs.

The 22-year-old striker has been separated from the team and will undergo individual training for a week. BasketNews attempted to contact team director Arunas Liskus, but he refused to comment on the situation,” the article said.

Months after leaving the G-League, Alex joined Mazeikiai and averaged 8.6 points and 2.5 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per contest. He also shot 51 percent from inside, 26 percent from distance and 62 percent from the free throw line.

Alex’s future in Lithuania remains uncertain as his older brother recovers from a calf strain that recently ruled him out of the playoffs. In any case, the youngest Antetokounmpo is still 22 years old and still has a chance of making it to the NBA.
