Missing woman found dead in south Charlotte home, search for vehicle underway

CHARLOTTE (NEWS FROM QUEEN CITY) — A woman reported missing was found dead in a south Charlotte home this week, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

The case has now been classified as a homicide and authorities are searching for her missing vehicle. The woman has been identified as Whitney Elizabeth Hurd, 32, of Charlotte.


Hurd was reported missing to CMPD by her family on Thursday, July 11. Authorities said her body was discovered in a home on Werburgh Street on Sunday, July 14.

On Tuesday, CMPD said they arrived in the area shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday for a death investigation. The next day, the case was ruled a homicide after consultation with the Mecklenburg County Coroner’s Office.

Investigators are asking the public for help in locating her vehicle, a white 2014 BMW X3 NC, license plate number KJP-9368. According to CMPD, the current location of the vehicle is unknown.
