Dog killed in house fire outside Kearney Tuesday night

BUFFALO COUNTY — A dog was killed in a house fire Tuesday night outside Kearney, authorities said.

In a message from the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department, Shelton Volunteer Fire Department and Kearney Volunteer Fire Department responded to a home Tuesday evening east of Kearney.

According to BCSO, all occupants were able to safely exit the home, but a dog died in the fire. The fire appears to have been caused by lightning.
