OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) – A Honduran man living in the U.S. illegally is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

A Facebook post from the OCSO said 20-year-old Kevin Mauricio Escobar Munoz was arrested on July 17 and booked into the Okaloosa County Jail.

OCSO officials said the victim told investigators she was awakened around 7 a.m. on April 21 by an unknown man holding his hand over her mouth and sexually assaulting her in her Fort Walton Beach home.

An examination of the girl revealed that she had been sexually abused, and on July 11, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was able to match DNA from the sex offender kit to Escobar Munoz, according to the OCSO.

Escobar Munoz was also charged with burglary with assault for forcibly entering the victim’s home. OCSO officials said he lived within a mile of the victim’s home.

Officials also said Escobar Munoz was deported in September 2022.
