Couple attacked at gunpoint, robbed and raped in Oakhaven

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – A couple is recovering after being attacked and robbed in Oakhaven Monday night before the girlfriend was raped at gunpoint.

A woman told police it started when she was in the car with her boyfriend around 11:30 p.m. and there was a knock on the window. She thought it might be a security guard because they were at a school park after school.

But the man, now identified as 41-year-old Corry Rayford, was not a security guard.

The woman says he told them, “Give me what you have.” So the couple handed over $600. But that wasn’t enough for Rayford.

She says he became angry and pointed a gun at her, forced the friend out of the car and told him to get on his knees and face the opposite direction.

The woman says Rayford then raped her at gunpoint.

The couple claims Rayford then told them he would kill them both if they followed him out of the park.

The next day, the woman noticed Rayford driving in the neighborhood, followed him and called the police, who were able to arrest him.

Rayford has been arrested several times in the past, but the latest charges against him appear to be the most brutal.

In 2006, records show he resisted arrest and fought with officers until they forced him to use a chemical agent on him. In that case, he was also found to be in illegal possession of a weapon.

WREG spoke to several people in the neighborhood who sadly said they are not shocked by the recent brutal attack. They are calling on the city to install more lighting and cameras in the area.

Rayford is charged with aggravated rape, two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated kidnapping. He is being held on $200,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
