Arizona teacher charged with sexually abusing runaway teenager

A teacher in Arizona was accused of sexually abusing a teenager who had been missing for months.

Robyn Rogers, 44, was arrested on July 11 and charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor, obstruction of justice, making false statements to police and possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia, AZ Family reported.

The 17-year-old victim, whose name was not released, ran away from home on February 14 and has not been seen since. Police officers followed up on several leads and tips that indicated the boy may have been at a home in Lake Havasu, Arizona, went to the home and spoke with Rogers. Police believed Rogers was hiding the victim, and while they were speaking with her, he fled out the back door of the home. Officers pursued him and arrested him.

Police reportedly stated that Rogers and the victim had a sexual relationship and that she helped him evade police.

Rogers taught at the charter school Telesis Preparatory Academy, local station Today’s News-Herald reported. A page that listed her as a member of the school’s staff was removed Friday, the station reported. The page previously said she was the school’s athletic director and a liaison to the board, as well as a life skills and child development teacher. She was also the school’s cheerleading coach. It is unclear if the victim was a student at Telesis.

Telesis Superintendent Sandy Breece said, “The employee is no longer employed at our school. We have no further information.”

Rogers was held on $25,000 bail for the three counts related to sexual conduct with the victim. He was given a $5,000 secured bond for the remaining counts, the News-Herald reported.

According to People Magazine, it is unclear whether she has hired a lawyer or entered a plea.
