Man gets 20 years in prison for raping a minor in Jajpur

Jaipur: The Jajpur Special Court for Political Education (POCSO) on Wednesday sentenced one Nirmal Mallik to 20 years in prison after convicting him for the rape of a minor girl in 2021.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the convicted Mallik. If he fails to pay the fine, Mallik will have to go to jail for another two months.

The court also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay compensation of Rs 700,000 to the rape victim.

The court announced the verdict based on the testimony of six witnesses.

According to the file, Mallik, a resident of Mangalpur police station in Jajpur district, had raped a minor girl in the same area in 2021 after finding her alone while she was on her way to relieve herself. The victim’s family had filed a complaint in this regard with Mangalpur police station. Following the complaint, Mallik was arrested and produced before the court.
