Man yelled at car and then attacked passersby, San Francisco police say

San Francisco police are asking for help in identifying a man accused of attacking a mentally impaired person who filmed him yelling at a Waymo self-driving vehicle, authorities said.

The man, aged between 25 and 30, yelled at a Waymo car in the 2300 block of Buchanan Street at 1 a.m. on July 5, a police news release said.

The video, which the victim provided to police and made available to the public, ends before the man allegedly attacks the other person, according to authorities.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries, including a skull fracture, police said. After police provided medical aid, he was taken to the hospital. His family told police he was mentally impaired.

The man is seen in the video blocking a Waymo vehicle that has a passenger inside, the department’s press release said.

“You are no better than me,” the man can be heard saying to the Waymo car in the video posted online by the San Francisco Police Department.

The person filming the video then tells the man to let the car pass. The suspect walked away from the car, lunged at the victim several times and then attacked him, police said.

The attacker was a white man with a beard. He was wearing a black jacket, a dark baseball cap turned inside out, a blue shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers and was carrying a white bag.
