Man receives life sentence for raping minor in Jajpur

Jaipur: The Additional District and Sessions Judge (POCSO) Court in Jajpur on Wednesday sentenced one Sambhunath Mallik to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping a minor girl in 2022.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1.20 lakh on Mallik. Failure to pay the fine will result in Mallik being imprisoned for another 16 months.

The court also ordered the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to pay compensation of Rs 700,000 to the rape victim.

The court made its verdict based on the testimony of 18 witnesses.

According to the file, Mallik, a resident of Jajpur police district, had raped a minor girl belonging to a scheduled caste community in 2022.

Mallik had raped the minor girl when she had gone to his betel shop. The minor girl was rescued by her elder sister and brought home. On reaching home, the minor girl narrated her ordeal to her mother, who then filed a written complaint at Jajpur police station.

Following the complaint, Mallik was arrested by the police and brought to court.
