July 17, 2024 9:30 a.m.

A Tenmile man was arrested following a chase late Monday night.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office states that at 10:40 p.m., a deputy attempted to stop a sedan for violations in the 3000 block of Strickland Canyon Road. The driver, 22-year-old Jered Thompson, headed west on Highway 42 and drove at speeds between 60 and 100 mph all the way into Coos County before he was struck by a Coos County deputy with a baton near Bridge.

The spikes were successful on one tire, but Thompson continued to Myrtle Point, where he was again shot with spikes by an Oregon State Police trooper and a Myrtle Point city official, which also flattened the rest of the vehicle’s tires. Thompson eventually came to a stop in the middle of Highway 42 between Myrtle Point and Coquille.

Thompson was taken into custody without incident and stated he fled because he was driving while under suspension. He was charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, driving while under suspension and warrants issued. Thompson was held on $10,000 bail.
