Serious truck crash in Lafayette: Injuries, emergency response, investigation

LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) – A man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries after the truck he was driving struck the back of an AWS dump truck just after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. It happened in the 3800 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway near the intersection with Robley Drive.

A witness at the scene told KPEL News that emergency responders had to place a tourniquet around the man’s arm to stop bleeding from a severe cut he sustained in the accident.

The pictures provided by the witness show a Ford F-350 truck being crushed into the back of the AWS truck. You can see that the passenger side of the Ford truck is completely smashed.

According to police spokesman Sergeant Robin Green, a second accident involving two vehicles occurred during the response due to onlookers. One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Sergeant Green said the injuries to both victims were not life-threatening and both accidents were under investigation. Police have not disclosed whether any charges have been filed in connection with this incident.

Both the police and the Department of Transport remind drivers that distraction and gawking are dangerous and can have disastrous consequences. Always keep your eyes on the road and your ears open when driving.
