Man hospitalized after reported drive-by shooting incident in west Eugene | Local

EUGENE, Oregon – One person was hospitalized following a drive-by shooting in west Eugene late Tuesday night, according to Eugene police.

According to Fire and Emergency Services CAD records, police responded to a 911 call about shots fired at The Bailey at Amazon Creek Apartments in the 3600 block of West 13th Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on July 16. Police said the victim, a man of unknown age, was struck multiple times by gunfire and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Witnesses in the area told a KEZI 9 reporter they heard what they believed to be a group of teenagers hanging out in the area where the shooting occurred. Other neighbors said they heard about five gunshots, which some thought were fireworks, until they heard first responders arriving with lights flashing and sirens blaring. One of the neighbors, Sarah Jopy, said she heard the commotion and rushed to help when she saw the victim outside.

“I came outside and there was a bunch of kids on my porch and he was like, ‘He shot me, he shot,'” Jopy said. “I ran to my car, got a trauma kit and helped with the bleeding, got him to sit down. About the time I got back, paramedics came and handed everyone out.”

Jopy said they work in the medical field and usually have a first aid kit handy. Jopy also said they saw a car drive away from the scene after hearing the gunshots.

The incident remains actively investigated by Eugene Police and the story continues to develop. Stay with KEZI 9 News as we continue to gather the latest information and details as they become available.
