A man from Antigua was sentenced to 17 years in prison for raping his ex-partner.

The 36-year-old was convicted in April for an incident that occurred on July 22, 2019.

The victim and the perpetrator had ended their six-month relationship about a month before the attack.

The man, angry at the suspicion of infidelity, lured the woman into his car under the pretext of repaying a debt.

Instead, he took her to a remote location where he verbally abused her, physically attacked her and sexually abused her without any protection, claiming that he was HIV positive.

Due to the seriousness of the crimes committed, Judge Ann Marie Smith imposed a long sentence.
