Houston Dynamo and Dash add USMNT legend to ownership group

One of the most recognizable figures in 21st century American football is getting involved in Houston’s professional football scene.

American soccer club Houston Dynamo announced this week that longtime U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper Tim Howard is joining the club, which owns Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo FC and the National Women’s Soccer League’s Houston Dash, as a minority investor. Howard, who represented the USMNT from 2002 to 2017, was recently inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

“Having dedicated my life to soccer, I am thrilled to join the Houston Dash and Dynamo ownership group,” Howard said in a statement. “This opportunity allows me to further contribute to the growth of the game in the United States and connect with the passionate soccer fans who call Houston home.”

Howard, a two-time CONCACAF Gold Cup winner in 2007 and 2017, spent the early part of his career playing for the MLS MetroStars (now known as the New York Red Bulls). He made the jump to the prestigious English Premier League in 2003, spending three seasons with Manchester United and 10 with Everton. The New Jersey native returned to MLS in 2016 with the Colorado Rapids before retiring in 2020.

The 45-year-old has maintained a significant public presence in the football world since stepping away from the game, serving as a full-time football analyst for NBC Sports since 2020.
