1 dead and 1 injured when driver crashes into oncoming traffic on Tuscaloosa Highway

A crash in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday left one driver dead and another injured. The accident occurred at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of 55th Avenue East and Old Birmingham Highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep, a 45-year-old Brookwood woman, was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center. Her condition was listed as stable early Wednesday morning. The name of the person killed has not been released. TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.

Paramedics from the Tuscaloosa Fire Department and Northstar EMS rendered aid to the 53-year-old Brookwood man, but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, a 45-year-old woman from Brookwood, was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center. She was listed in stable condition early Wednesday morning.

The name of the person killed was not released.

The investigation is being carried out by the TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit.
