Portsmouth police investigate death of man on Maple Avenue – The Virginian-Pilot

PORTSMOUTH – A man is dead after being shot on Maple Avenue Monday night, police said.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Maple Avenue for a report of the shooting. At the scene, emergency responders found 23-year-old Carlton Jermaine Sherrod Jr. suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Portsmouth Police Investigations Bureau at 757–393–8536. Police have not released any information about possible suspects or the possible motive for the shooting.
