According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a Lawrence teenager was killed in a car crash discovered Tuesday evening.

Family members of 17-year-old Brody Minton reported him missing on Monday and police had been trying to find him, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman George Diepenbrock said by email.

“DGSO officers conducted an extensive search on Monday and Tuesday, including at the Clinton Lake campground, attempting to locate his vehicle in the area,” Diepenbrock said.

A person spotted the Nissan Altima Minton was driving in a wooded area in the 900 block of North 1150 Road at 5:38 p.m. Tuesday, Diepenbrock said.

On Tuesday evening, officials were busy closing the road known as Dam Road at Clinton Lake for the investigation by the sheriff’s office accident reconstruction team, Diepenbrock said.

Motorists in the area should use East 902 Road near Eagle Bend Golf Course, he said.
