“I’m really surprised”; Neighbours react to alleged sodomite and rapist who lives next door | News

A Huntsville resident is concerned after learning that his neighbor is accused of sodomy and rape.

Tahjyer Amir Reed was arrested Friday and charged with first- and second-degree rape, first- and second-degree sodomy, burglary and theft of property.

WAAY 31 looked into Reed’s past and found that he had been charged with sex crimes before. He was charged with sodomy back in 2014. He would have been a minor.

All we currently know about the rape and sodomy charges is that they stem from a burglary and encounters with a child.

District Attorney Tim Gann says all of the charges against Reed stem from one incident. Gann says there are two female victims. Reed knew the girls before committing the crimes.

According to Gann, all sex crimes involve minors.

Reed’s neighbors, who wished to remain anonymous for their safety, could not believe that someone in their quiet neighborhood was capable of such a thing.

“I’m really surprised, actually shocked, because something like this doesn’t happen in this area,” said a neighbor.

The exact relationship between Reed and his victims is currently being investigated.

Huntsville Police will not release any further information about these crimes because it could affect the outcome of the investigation.

The neighbor, who is a father and grandfather, told WAAY 31 that if anything good can come from such crimes, it is to raise awareness among all people in the area.

“Just be careful and be vigilant because all of these things contribute to everyone’s safety,” he said.
