Celebrate National Buffalo Soldiers Day by watching 761st Tank Battalion: The Original Black Panthers (2023) at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28 at the Allen Public Library. Sergeant Clinton Warren will introduce the film.

The contributions of the African-American unit of the 761st Tank Battalion were crucial in defeating the Nazis during World War II, and this documentary reveals the daunting challenges these brave soldiers faced. Starring Morgan Freeman and Sergeant Clinton Warren, this film tells the story of how, through intelligence and passion, they helped America achieve critical military objectives. The courage and strength of character displayed by the members of the 761st Tank Battalion demonstrates a bravery that deliberately overcame all odds.

The film was directed by Emmy and Peabody Award winner Phil Bertelsen, who has worked in both film and television, with and without a script. The star actor, 1SG Clinton Warren, is a member of Company E, 24th Infantry Regiment, Texas Buffalo Soldiers Association.

Due to licensing restrictions, the program will not be broadcast virtually.
