NMSU’s Titus Dumitru selected by Atlanta Braves in 2024 MLB Draft

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — New Mexico State junior outfielder Titus Dumitru was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 16th round of the 2024 MLB draft on Tuesday. Dumitru was the 491st overall pick.

In his lone season at NMSU in 2024, Dumitru batted .337, recorded 61 hits with 16 doubles and 12 home runs. Dumitru drove in 40 runs for the Aggies. He had a .435 on-base percentage and a .624 slugging percentage for a 1.059 OPS. Dumitru was named to the 2024 All-Conference USA Second Team. He only spent one season with the Aggies as he transferred from Linn Benton College after his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Dumitru becomes the second member of the 2024 NMSU baseball team to be drafted in 2024. Fellow NMSU outfielder Keith Jones II was selected by the Texas Rangers in the ninth round on Monday.

Dumitru becomes the fourth NMSU baseball player to be selected by the Braves, the last Aggie selected by the Braves being Ian Mejia. Dumitru is also the second Aggie selected in the 16th round, joining Gene DeSalme, who was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2001 MLB Draft.
