Passengers injured in bus crash on embankment in Renton

According to Renton Police, the bus driver reportedly suffered a medical emergency.






Several passengers on a King County Metro bus were injured on July 12 when the bus crashed into an embankment in Renton.

Due to the embankment accident, South Puget Drive was closed in both directions between Benson Road and Benson Drive starting at approximately 7 p.m. on July 12.

According to Renton police, the bus driver suffered a medical emergency that led to the accident. Eight passengers on the bus sustained minor injuries.

The Renton Regional Fire Authority, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and King County Medic One arrived at the scene. First responders treated the driver and injured passengers, with all patients transported to nearby hospitals by 7:34 p.m., according to a social media post from the Renton Regional Fire Authority.

Several towing companies arrived on scene to remove the bus from the embankment, including Gene Meyer Towing, Pete’s Towing and Bankers Auto Rebuild and Towing.

“The accident report is not yet complete,” said Sandra Havlik, spokeswoman for the Renton Police Department, in an email.
