Texans Odds for 2024 NFL Playoffs (Can Houston Repeat Last Year’s Success?)

The Houston Texans have had a dream season in 2023. The team went from having the second-worst record in the NFL in 2022 to finding its franchise quarterback, signing one of the best young head coaches in the league and advancing to the second round of the NFL playoffs.

Not only was CJ Stroud voted Offensive Rookie of the Year, but the rookie quarterback was in the NFL MVP conversation as he led the Texans to the AFC South title and a playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Now the big question remains: can they repeat their success in 2024?

Let’s see what the bookmakers think their chances of returning to the playoffs are.

Good news for Texans fans. Bookmakers are confident in your team’s return to the playoffs, setting their odds of doing so at -194, which corresponds to an implied probability of 65.99%.

Only the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals have better odds than the Texans to make the AFC playoffs next season. As expected, they are also favored to repeat as AFC South champions at +105.

The Texans did a great job of building on last year’s success while adding a lot of pieces to their roster. They acquired running back Joe Mixon from the Bengals and wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills. They also signed one of the top defensive free agents in Danielle Hunter, which allowed Will Anderson to add some help on the defensive line.

One factor working against the Texans is that they have the seventh-toughest schedule in the NFL this season, based on how many wins their opponents are projected to have. If they can overcome that obstacle, they’ll be in a great position to return to the playoffs next year.
