1 man dead after shooting in Portales

PORTALES, NM (KFDA) – A man is dead in Portales after a shooting in the early morning hours of July 15.

According to Portales Police, officers responded to a 911 call at the corner of W Kaywood and N Avenue B around 3:24 a.m. after it came in from the area.

When police arrived, they found 51-year-old Benigno Castillo with gunshot wounds.

Castillo was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

This shooting is currently under investigation.
