Springfield man sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping two women

A Springfield man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping two different women, one attack occurring in June 2021 and the other in January 2020.

Anthony Allen Thompson, 42, entered an Alford plea to two counts of first-degree rape on July 3. As part of the plea, Greene County prosecutors dropped several charges of second-degree sodomy and second-degree domestic violence.

An Alford plea under Missouri law means that a defendant does not admit guilt of a crime, but admits that prosecutors have enough evidence against him to reasonably find him guilty of a crime in court.

District Judge Kaiti Greenewade sentenced Thompson to 10 years in prison and ordered that each sentence be served consecutively. Thompson must serve at least 85 percent of his 20-year sentence before he is eligible for parole.

According to prosecutors, Thompson sexually assaulted a woman in January 2020 by forcing her to perform oral, anal and vaginal sex. The victim repeatedly told Thompson to stop and that he was hurting her, but he put his hand over her mouth and told her to be quiet, the prosecutor wrote in court documents.

This victim went to the hospital and underwent a forensic examination for sexual abuse. The results showed that Thompson’s DNA matched the DNA found in the victim’s body.

According to the indictment for the 2021 sexual assault, Thompson beat the victim, strangled her, and threatened her with a knife and a box cutter. According to court documents, Thompson slashed her leg with the box cutter.

A prosecutor wrote that Thompson forced his victim to perform oral sex and then raped and sodomized her, causing her pain for days after the attack.

Thompson has an “extensive criminal history spanning multiple states,” the prosecutor wrote. He has been convicted of second-degree arson, domestic violence, two counts of violating a protective order, driving under the influence and theft.

Thompson is being held in the Greene County Jail awaiting transport to a Missouri Department of Corrections prison.
