Incident involving “hazardous substances” forces Coolidge neighborhoods to evacuate and shelter in place

COOLIDGE, AZ (AZFamily) – Due to a hazardous materials situation, evacuations and curfews were imposed in several Coolidge neighborhoods.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, residents between E Steele Rd. and E. Kleck Rd. and from SR 87 to N. Fast Track Rd. are asked to leave the roads immediately.

Additionally, people west of SR 87 to N. La Palma Road and the community of Randolph are asked to shelter at home.

A spokesperson for the city of Coolidge told Arizona’s family that the incident is ongoing at Heritage Environmental Services, about seven miles south of downtown Coolidge. Heritage is an Indiana-based company that specializes in industrial waste removal.

Coolidge officials have not provided further information about the nature of the incident, which began Tuesday morning.

The Coolidge Fire Department is in charge of the situation, while crews from Eloy, Casa Grande, Pinal County Environmental Service and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality are also on scene.

No injuries were reported.
