Man arrested in attempted murder case, reports MPD

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A 37-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection with an attempted murder case, Madison police report.

According to MPD, Jerome Jacobs Jr. was taken into custody in Gary, Indiana with the assistance of U.S. Marshals. An arrest warrant was issued on June 28.

During a press conference in June, Chief Barnes identified Jacobs Jr. as the suspected gunman in the June 9 shooting at the corner of Andrew Way and Trafalgar Place.

Callers reported hearing up to 20 gunshots at the time, and MPD noted that vehicles had been struck by gunfire.

Two people were injured in the drive-by shooting, one of whom is still in critical condition. The other person was treated and was able to leave the hospital.

Jacobs was involved in a chase in Eau Claire earlier this month. Eau Claire police said Tuesday, June 11, that he allegedly crashed his vehicle and ran away when officers tried to stop him. Officers thoroughly searched the area, including inside homes, but said Jacobs was not found.

It is unclear when the suspect will be returned to Madison.
