Windsor police charge man with luring and sexually abusing girl

Windsor police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old man with luring and sexually abusing a minor he met online.

The Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) of the Windsor Police Service — a special unit to combat online crime against children — launched an investigation in May after receiving reports that a 15-year-old girl had been lured and attacked by a local man she had come into contact with through social media.

In a tweet posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday afternoon, Windsor police said members of ICE investigated the Windsor man, arrested him, and seized his electronic devices as evidence.

Police say the suspect has been charged with sexual assault and seduction of a child under 16 years of age.

ICE is a specialized law enforcement unit dedicated to investigating and combating online crimes against children, such as luring, exploitation and abuse.

There are subsections in the Criminal Code of Canada that deal separately with the luring of minors under 18 years of age, under 16 years of age and under 14 years of age.

In May, Windsor police charged a 27-year-old man charged with sexual assault and sexual abuse of a minor under 16 years of age.

Investigators said the suspect befriended the girl at a store in the 800 block of Wyandotte Street East. He then drove the girl to a nearby residence and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
