3 Buffalo Bills Rookies To Watch In Training Camp

We’re getting a little closer to the start of the NFL season with the Buffalo Bills rookies reporting to training camp. The rest of the team will report to St. John Fisher University on July 23, and then we’ll really get into training camp leading up to the first preseason game. The Bills are getting a fresh start after another heartbreaking playoff exit last season. Brandon Beane has put together a team that’s a bit different than what Bills fans are used to, but we’ll see how they look on the field.

Training camp is an exciting time for fans as they do their own scouting and make projections on how the team will perform and who will make the roster. Ultimately, it’s up to management to make the tough choices in deciding who will suit up for the Bills on game days and who will be released.

With the rookies reporting to training camp, there are three rookies that Bills fans should keep an eye on over the next few weeks. These rookies have a chance to be immediate contributors or potentially become above-average starters in the future.

This should be the obvious first choice. After the Bills traded up twice in the first round and eventually threw away the second round of the NFL Draft, they took Keon Coleman from Florida State. Coleman brings a physicality to the game that allows him to win contested receptions and be a threat outside the numbers. While he isn’t expected to immediately become a No. 1 receiver like Stefon Diggs left him, he’ll have to prove that he was the right receiver the Bills selected.

It’s no surprise that the Bills selected a safety, but Cole Bishop falling to the Bills in the late second round is a huge upgrade. While Taylor Rapp and veteran free agent Mike Edwards could be early starters, Bishop is the future at the position. The run-stopping safety will be great in run defense with some development. It will also be great to see Bishop develop into a defender who can cover tight ends one-on-one, a job that is never easy.

Believe it or not, Javon Solomon has the potential to be a steal for the Bills. While he is small as an edge rusher, that actually gives him an advantage when he comes off the snap. He is quick with the ball, so his ability to help slow down the run at the line of scrimmage can be helpful in creating pressure in the pocket. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Solomon eventually move to outside linebacker if he can provide that versatility as well.
