Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation are offering their teen patients a special summer camp experience. Campers will attend their own Dunkin’ Prom, thanks to a $60,000 grant from the Dunkin’ Prom Foundation.

For the participants, many of whom were unable to attend their school’s prom, these special nights provide a welcome distraction and an opportunity to celebrate and spend time with friends. The evening of festivities will include a photo booth with props, a DJ and a lighted dance floor. As campers join in the dancing, they will be able to enjoy the huge neon balloon arch and bubble machines.

“At Children’s, we recognize the unique challenges teens face in celebrating typical milestones like prom or summer camp,” said Abbie Doran, Children’s Camp Program Coordinator. “It’s so important for them to have normative experiences that allow them to focus on developmentally appropriate things and take a break from their chronic illness. We’re pleased to have been able to host our own version of Dunkin’ Prom in a way that’s safe for our patients and we know this event will have a lasting impact on our participants and our community.”

This year marks five years since the very first Dunkin’ Prom in 2019. During that time, the Foundation has hosted nearly 60 events in collaboration with children’s hospitals across the country, with thirteen planned for 2024.

“Patients who are hospitalized for medical conditions or undergoing treatment lose access to many simple joys that can be easily taken for granted. Our Teen Proms provide an opportunity to look forward to and experience the joy of prom,” said Emilly Bartels, marketing manager for Dunkin’ Field. “We are proud to partner with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to bring this special experience to teen patients in the city of Atlanta.”
