Man fatally shot while driving in Hampton: Police

Hampton police identified the victim as Nasir Mosley, a 19-year-old man from Newport News.

NORFOLK, Virginia – A man died after being shot while driving his vehicle in Hampton on Tuesday night, police said.

The shooting occurred in the 100 block of Atlantic Avenue, near Fort Monroe and Buckroe Beach. Hampton police identified the victim as Nasir Mosley, a 19-year-old Newport News man.

The investigation began around 12:15 a.m. when dispatch received a report of shots fired on Atlantic Avenue.

Officers found a vehicle that left the road and drove through a fence before crashing into a swampy area at the dead end of Atlantic Avenue and Thimble Shoals Court.

Police say Mosley was found dead of a gunshot wound. Investigators believe multiple shots were fired in the 100 block of Atlantic Avenue, striking Mosley, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and drive into the swamp.

Hampton police said the motive and circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.
