IDF officials attacked in Bnei Brak during discussion of ultra-Orthodox bill – Israel News

Two high-ranking Israeli soldiers were attacked in Bnei Brak on Monday evening, Kan News reported on Tuesday morning.

The two officers, the commander of the Israel Defense Forces Training Command, Major General David Zini, and the division chief of the Personnel Planning and Management Department, Brigadier General Shai Taib, were attacked in Bnei Brak after meeting with Rabbi David Leibel, who was working on establishing an ultra-Orthodox division within the Israeli army.

After the meeting, dozens of ultra-Orthodox extremists surrounded the police vehicle, throwing objects while shouting Nazi insults and “murderers.” The police vehicle was blocked until police arrived at the scene.

Interior Minister Moshe Arbel of the Shas party reacted to the incident: “The handful of extremists who called Major General David Zini and Brigadier General Shai Taib ‘murderers’ last night in Bnei Brak after a meeting with an important rabbi in the city do not even represent themselves. They deserve the condemnation of all of us, and we have no connection with them.”

Proposal to expand scheduled services

Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs commented on the conscription law at the last cabinet meeting, saying: “We have made a significant breakthrough towards its adoption,” as reported on Channel 2 on Tuesday.

Fuchs responded to ministers who called for the proposal to extend regular service in the Israeli army in parallel with the conscription law by saying that there was no reason for this, since the conscription law was being pushed forward by the coalition.

In addition, the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense wrote on his account X (formerly Twitter): “There is only one place where the conscription law is being drafted, and that is in the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense. We will start drafting the clause on Wednesday and everyone is invited – from citizens to the Prime Minister.”
