One professor suspended for an ‘unmissable’ assassination attempt, another claims the shooting was ‘staged’

Several professors reacted to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump with extreme comments and received criticism and, in some cases, consequences.

Within 24 hours of Saturday’s incident, a USC professor’s column was deleted by Forbes after suggesting that Trump would use his story of “surviving a gun attack” to appeal to black voters. Another person from the University of British Columbia deactivated their profile on X after receiving backlash for their post, “Damn, so close. Too bad.”

On Monday, more headlines emerged showing two more professors in trouble.

Bellarmine University suspended English teacher John James after he posted on Instagram, “If you’re going to shoot, man, don’t miss,” and included a screenshot of an article about the attempted murder. Courier Journal reported.

“The post went viral after Libs from TikTok took a screenshot of it and posted it on X, formerly known as Twitter,” the diary reported.

In a statement to the newspaper, a university spokesman said:

Words and actions that condone violence are unacceptable and contradict our values, which call for respect for the inherent worth and dignity of each individual. We strive to create an inclusive community that welcomes all and exemplifies a spirit of goodwill. We are aware of an offensive and unacceptable social media post made by an employee over the weekend. This individual was immediately placed on unpaid leave.

At the University of Virginia, a professor claimed the shooting was staged.

Emma Arns reported for Campus reform that Sethunya Mokoko, an assistant professor at the University of Virginia, posted on X that the incident was “theatrics” and an attempt to gain voters’ sympathy.

According to a screenshot of the X-post, Mokoko stated: “I ignored it because Trump and the Secret Service staged theatrics to win the votes of idiots.”

He referred to a widely read interview with an eyewitness who stated that those present had warned officers about a man on the roof a few minutes before the shots were fired.

Trump was shot in the ear by an assassin during a campaign rally on Saturday. The gunman was shot dead by police after firing several shots, killing one rally participant and injuring two others besides Trump.
