One dead, four injured in buggy-SUV collision near Lowville | Top Stories

All five passengers in the buggy were ejected and a 17-year-old Amish male was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a state police news release.

Four other people were also injured: a 21-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman, an 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old man. Police are not releasing their names yet because their families have not yet been notified.

Two of the male occupants were taken to Lewis County Hospital with “serious, non-life-threatening injuries.” The two women suffered minor injuries, police said.

Spaulding, the driver of the SUV, was found at his residence and charges are pending pending the outcome of the investigation, state police said.

State police were assisted by the Lewis County Search and Rescue Unit, fire departments from Lowville, Rutland and Castorland, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis County Fire and Emergency Management Department and the Lewis County District Attorney’s Office.
